OU seeking Director of External Relations

Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to establish strong community relationships by overseeing and coordinating all external outreach and advancement efforts for the Southern Campus, including alumni affairs, campus development, grant-writing, community engagement, continuing education, industry/workforce development, and community college partnerships.

1. Lead and coordinate all major gift activity for the campus. Works closely with the Dean, faculty, and Ohio Universitys central development staff in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects. Develop funding proposals and secure gift commitments for the Southern Campus. Oversee stewardship for campus donors. Conduct periodic giving campaigns. Coordinate with campus financial aid and budget manager in regards to scholarships, and with the Ohio University Foundation concerning endowed accounts, restricted accounts and gift deposits. Serve on community boards to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships for the advancement of the mission of the university.

2. Serve as a primary grant-writer for the campus to secure needed funding for campus priorities.

3. Oversee and coordinate relationships with alumni and community members. Direct community partnership operations for the campus. Organize campus events to engage alumni and community members.

4. Coordinate outreach strategy to significantly expand and develop new work training relationships with the tri-states workforce, industrial base, and local community-based nonprofit agencies. Make contacts and establish meetings with local and regional business, industry and nonprofit leaders to develop new opportunities for partnership and training services. Establish relationship with local community colleges to identify and form needed partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Finance, Business, Communication, or related field.

At least three (3) years of experience in fund raising, development or related experience.

Strong technical writing and oral communication skills along with proven record of grant writing success.

Must be able to work independently with strong problem solving skills and the ability to foresee problems and initiate appropriate action.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in Finance, Business, Communication or related field.

Experience making community connections and building new relationships and stewarding of these relationships.

Commensurate with education and experience. Employees also enjoy a generous benefits package which includes health benefits, paid time off, and education benefits for employees and eligible dependents.

Work Schedule

M-F 8AM-5PM with some evenings and weekends required.
