The Athens News is looking for student freelance writers to mainly cover campus-related news but also other stories, both hard news and features (and entertainment). We have freelance openings for summer and fall semester. We would like to interview student journalists who know how to write and report, and who aren't afraid to aggressively pursue stories. Unlike other print/web media opportunities in Athens, we actually pay for stories usually around $35 to $40 for an average-length story (700 words more or less), though it depends on the type of story. We also want people who can be depended upon to pitch story ideas on a regular basis, rather than waiting for handouts.
